Model/Client release forms and What they are all about:

What is this form? A model release form offers written permission for the photographer to use images taken during a photoshoot, for commercial purposes. If the model is under 18 years of age then the form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. Child models need their parents consent to take part in any kind of modelling.

The form offers protection to models and photographers and it is essential that both are aware of the legal document whilst working in the industry.

Such forms are generally used when the images feature a clearly identifiable subject (model) who is featured in part, or all, of the main image. They are less likely to be used if the images are not being created for commercial use.

Why is Consent Important? The Client/s should expressly agree the uses to which the photographer puts the photographs as well as the areas where the photographer can use the photographs. Remember that if the photographer subsequently wishes to use the photographs for a purpose or in an area for which consent has not been granted, the photographer must first obtain the clients consent for use for that purpose.

Minors/Under 18s?

A minor release or model/client release for minors serves the same purpose as the model release, but it’s only needed when the subject of the photo is under 18 years of age. In this case, a parent or legal guardian would need to sign the document.

Over 18s?

You do not need to have legal guardian or parent to sign this for you as you are the legal age to consent for yourself as an adult.

Should I sign or not? Ultimately, whether or not you wish to sign the release is entirely your decision. Some photographers will insist on it whilst others will be more relaxed. Signing the form could reduce the likelihood of your image being used in a way you might not be happy about. Not signing one does not guarantee that your image will stay out of the public domain. It could still be passed on to magazines, websites and other third parties for editorial use without your consent.

The document is intended to offer legal protection for both you and the photographer. Therefore, it is important to fully understand the document. Always make sure that you fully understand every detail of the form and that you are happy to proceed. Never feel pressured or obliged to sign the document as you need to feel confident in your decision.

Regular Questions:

Can you come to my home to take the photo shoot?

In line with Covid guidelines where this is an option I will be able to travel to you yes. Dependant on the Covid guidleines at the time of the shoot I may be required to wear relevant PPE. I may also be required to clean the space, props etc before, during and after the appointment.

Will you Photoshop my images?

I do edit images for light, exposure, colour and facial blemishes or pimples. However, I’m not heavy handed with my retouching and will not alter anything you’re not comfortable with. If you would like something specific please feel free to raise to me.

Which format do you shoot in?

I take my images in a RAW file that is accompanied by a JPEG version. I only edit in a RAW file format as the quality is a lot better. All JPEGs use Lossy Compression, which has an adverse affect on the quality of the image.

What If I loose my images?

There is a 50.00 GBP replacement charge for additional downloads after the event has been archived. I strongly suggest you make at least one copy of the download when you receive it from myself.

Studio bookings with Covid Guidlines?

Yes, in accordance to government guidelines, all photography studios used will be cleaned at the start of each day and then throughout the day by the company or via myself. All props and blankets will be cleaned after every portrait shoot. If PPE is required by all parties this will need to be worn in line with the current guidelines for your area.
